Understanding Medicare Supplements & Medicare Advantage Plans
Medicare does not cover all your healthcare costs. In fact, Medicare Part A and Part B only cover about 80% of medical expenses.
Medicare Supplement plans, also called “Medigap” plans, supplement your
basic Medicare coverage. If you choose one of these plans, you still have your Medicare Part A and Part B coverage plus additional insurance to pay part – or all – of what Medicare does not cover.
Medicare Advantage plans completely replace your Part A and Part B Medicare insurance. You no longer have a Medicare card. Instead, you’re covered by the Medicare Advantage plan for
all your healthcare needs. Medicare Advantage plans offer comprehensive coverage, and you are usually responsible for a copayment when you access care. These plans often have lower monthly premiums.
